Preconcert Lectures

Preconcert lectures explore musical concepts as well as provide historical and cultural contexts to prepare concertgoers for that evening’s performance. These thirty-minute lectures are presented either by the artists or by faculty from the University of Michigan and begin one hour prior to the start of the concert.

Accessible Artists

The Academy’s intimate concert settings allow audience members to interact with artists after the performance. Concertgoers are encouraged to talk to the artists, ask questions, and request autographs, as well as examine their musical instruments during intermission.

Standalone Lecture/Demonstrations

Lecture/demonstrations explore early musical instruments and other early music topics outside of the concert hall. Lecture/demonstrations are free to the general public.

Youth Activities

These interactive, hands-on events allow young audiences to learn about early classical music while having fun. Instrument petting zoos are provided courtesy of the Stearns Collection.

Master Classes

Master classes allow artists performing on the Academy’s series to pass along their knowledge and experience to the next generation of musicians. The general public may observe these events at no cost.

Live On Air Interviews

Learn about the artists and hear their stories in their own words during live interviews on WRCJ (90.9 FM, Detroit).

Radio Broadcasts

The Academy broadcasts its some of its concerts on WRCJ (90.9 FM, Detroit) and WKAR (90.5 FM, East Lansing). An electronic version of the program book will be available for download from the Academy’s website prior to each broadcast.
