Diderot String Quartet

Diderot String Quartet—founded in 2012 and named after the French philosopher and Boccherini enthusiast Denis Diderot—brings a fresh approach to works of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The four musicians met at Oberlin Conservatory and The Juilliard School; they share a background in historical performance and found the thrill of exploring the quartet repertoire on period instruments to be irresistible. Their program features works by Haydn, Mozart, and little-known French composer Hyacinthe Jadin.

The quartet has served as guest faculty for Oberlin’s Baroque Performance Institute and been in residence at Aldeburgh Music in the U.K and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (New York City). They have performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Carmel Bach Festival, Early Music Vancouver, Music Before 1800 (New York City), Chamber Music Corvallis, and St. Cecilia Music Series. Diderot also enters its fourth year as Quartet in Residence at the Washington National Cathedral and has recently released recordings of Mozart and Jadin.
