Transport yourself to a world of wild wonders with Vivaldi’s Il Gardellino (Goldfinch) concerto, Biber’s colorful Sonata Representativa, Werner’s stormy Il Novembre suite, and the ensemble’s reconstruction of J. F. Lampe’s playful Cuckoo Concerto. This unusual program exploring themes from nature also features works named for birds and butterflies by Couperin and Rameau.

Founded by Artistic Directors Suzanne Stumpf and Daniel Ryan, Musicians of the Old Post Road is a Boston-based chamber ensemble that specializes in the period instrument performance of music from the Baroque to early Romantic eras. Its repertoire includes compelling “rediscovered” works that have been lost to audiences for centuries. The ensemble has toured North America and Europe, and has seven CD recordings to its credit.

Daniel Ryan, co-Artistic Director, cellist, has played with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Il Complesso Barocco (Venice and Innsbruck), the Camerata Academica of Salzburg, and many ensembles in the Greater Boston area such as Handel & Haydn Society, Boston Baroque, and Favella Lyrica. He studied cello with George Neikrug, pursued historical performance at the Longy School of Music, and later studied with Christophe Coin at the Sommerakademie in Innsbruck.

Suzanne Stumpf, co-Artistic Director, flutist, has performed with numerous chamber and orchestral ensembles including the New York Bach Ensemble, Handel & Haydn Society, and Boston Baroque, with whom she has appeared as soloist. She studied historical performance in Vienna with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, in Zurich with Johann Sonnleitner, and did graduate work at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. She taught Flute, Baroque Flute, and Chamber Music at Wellesley College for over three decades.

Sarah Darling, violinist and violist, studied at Harvard and Juilliard, and is currently finishing a doctorate at New England Conservatory with Kim Kashkashian. She holds a variety of leading and directorial roles with Boston Baroque, the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra, Musical Offering, Les Bostonades, and the Arcturus Ensemble. She also performs with the Boston Early Music Festival, Carmel Bach Festival, Emmanuel Music, the Bach Ensemble, and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.

Marcia Cassidy, violist, on the faculty of Dartmouth College, where she teaches violin and viola and coaches chamber music. As the violist of the Franciscan String Quartet, she performed extensively worldwide to critical acclaim, including winning first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition. Ms. Cassidy studied at the New England Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory, and with the Tokyo String Quartet at the Yale School of Music.

Michael Bahmann, harpsichordist, holds degrees from the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, San Francisco Conservatory, and New England Conservatory. As one of the founding members of Musicians of the Old Post Road, he has appeared at early music festivals in Indianapolis, Regensburg, and Mexico City. As a soloist and recitalist, he also performed at the festivals of Radio France, Königslutter, Aix-en-Musique, Chicago Symphony Chamber Concerts, among others.
